Shanon joins Uni Hub team

April 20, 2020

Port Augusta local Shanon Pillion has joined the Uni Hub team, assisting coordination of the Port Augusta site and supporting students at the new campus facility.

Ms Pillion comes to Uni Hub with more than 20 years in the education and training sector at TAFE and has a strong connection to local schools and employers.

Uni Hub Chief Executive Officer Anita Crisp said the appointment was a significant milestone in the evolution of the organisation.

“We are very pleased to have Shanon on board. She brings an enormous wealth of knowledge and experience and has joined us at a time of really strong growth,” she said.

“There are 24 students undertaking university study in Port Augusta through Uni Hub this year. We have 13 enrolled in our undergraduate degrees and three studying graduate or Masters level qualifications. It has been a fantastic response.

“We also have a further eight students in Port Augusta enrolled in either a university preparation program or senior secondary school students studying a university subject as part of their SACE.”

Ms Crisp explained the degrees were delivered through Uni Hub partner universities - CQ University and Flinders University - and were selected by a panel of local employers to specifically help address skilled workforce shortages in the region.

“The whole point of Uni Hub is to provide local access to university study, local support for our students and importantly, local jobs at the end of the degrees we offer,” she said.

“Shanon’s industry and local knowledge will be invaluable in helping us achieve this.”

Ms Pillion said it was an exciting time to be involved in the Uni Hub – with its Port Augusta campus opening this year and student enrolment numbers doubling in just 12 months.

“I’m looking forward to supporting our students in accessing further education through the Uni Hub without them having to leave the region,” she said.

“Gaining tertiary qualifications will give local people increased employment opportunities within the Spencer Gulf.”

Ms Pillion joins Student Services Coordinator Kim Gregory, who works between the Port Augusta and Port Pirie sites and Lexie Morris, who is continuing to assist Uni Hub in addition to her teaching role with Caritas College.
