Two new business university degrees at Uni Hub Spencer Gulf will help meet the demand for more professionals with business-related qualifications in the region.
The Uni Hub’s partner Flinders University will deliver a Bachelor of Business and Master of Business Administration through the Port Pirie and Port Augusta campuses from this year.
Uni Hub’s Port Augusta Student Engagement Officer, Lexie Morris said the announcement follows the recent completion of industry surveys, with employers across the Upper Spencer Gulf indicating there was a need for more professionals with business-related qualifications in the region.
“Uni Hub’s recent industry survey showed a shortage of workers with business-related qualifications right across the Port Pirie and Port Augusta areas,” Ms Morris said.
“The Flinders Business Degree and MBA were selected by our industry panel as the university-level qualifications that best provide students with the broad knowledge and competencies to enhance a career in business-related fields.
“By offering these courses we can continue to grow a pool of professionals from within the region to ensure we are building a competitive and self-reliant economy and community.”
Spokesperson for Flinders University, Professor Clare Pollock, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students), said topics in the Business Degree were extremely varied and include economics, law and accounting, management, marketing, innovation and entrepreneurship, human resource management and options around small business and international business.
“Students will also have a strong focus on industry engagement including enterprisebased projects and business mentors,” Professor Pollock said.
“This is an area where our partnership with the Uni Hub will give students an extra advantage, as there are strong local connections to a wide range of industry partners across the Upper Spencer Gulf and surrounding areas.”
In addition to the undergraduate Business degree, Uni Hub Spencer Gulf has also partnered with Flinders University to offer a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in the region.
Flinders University is one of only four universities in Australia, to have accreditation from the prestigious Association of MBAs – placing the program in the upper echelon of business courses internationally.
“It represents the gold standard in global recognition of MBAs. We are pleased to offer this through Uni Hub,” said Flinders Business Professor Roberta Crouch.
“With our MBA we worked closely with industry to design a flexible, job-ready curriculum. Applicants need to have minimum employment experience, academic qualifications and undertake an interview for entry.
“MBA graduates will gain a range of knowledge and skills, from business, leadership and management, through to strategy, with the opportunity to build their entrepreneurial skills.”
