As our region faces the prospect of unprecedented growth and economic activity, the timing could not be better to see the return of local expos designed to showcase the employment opportunities and career pathways on offer both now and into the future.

The Copper Coast, Port Pirie and Port Augusta communities are invited to a series of Regional Career Roadshows where students, job seekers, and career changers can discover the diverse range of possibilities and access valuable information and connections.

Uni Hub Spencer Gulf are a not-for-profit, community-owned and driven tertiary education facility that brings educational opportunities to people in the Spencer Gulf and Copper Coast regions and are a key driver of the Career Roadshows.

“We’ve had a huge response for these events with over 40 exhibitors registered for each event including local employers, training providers, universities, apprenticeship providers, recruitment and employment services,” says Uni Hub Spencer Gulf CEO, Anita Kuss.

“This marks the largest career event series ever seen in the region and is a welcome return for this style of event which has not been on offer since the COVID pandemic.”

The events have attracted huge interest from local schools with nineteen registered to attend events across the three locations with an anticipated 1,500 school students set to benefit from the experience.

Our regional communities are poised for significant growth with a strong industry base and a number of major projects on the horizon that will result in an increased demand for post- school qualifications.

The health and social assistance sector, already the region’s largest employer, is experiencing the strongest growth of any sector nationally with employment more than doubling over the past 20 years and offers a vast array of job opportunities.

The region also sits at the heart of a unique convergence of renewable resources – sun and wind – close to significant mineral resources. These resources include Australia’s richest copper deposit, superior magnetite iron ore, and proximity to the world’s second-largest proven graphite reserve.

Thousands of new local jobs are expected to be created in various sectors, including hydrogen, green steel and iron, critical minerals exploration, extraction and processing, and manufacturing. These sectors, alongside a multitude of others, will be represented at the Roadshows, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

“Job vacancies across our regions have almost doubled from pre-COVID levels and we continue to see strong demand in a range of industries for skilled workers and also for entry level roles” says the regions’ Employment Facilitator, Lisa Brock.

“Recruiting for workers is much more challenging in regional areas, so being able to grow our own workforce is important if we want to realise the economic opportunities before us. We know it can be difficult for individuals to navigate the range of courses, jobs and support that is available, so the Roadshows will help people access the right information and make the connections they need to start or change their career pathway.”

The events are open to people of all ages and abilities including students, job seekers, parents and people looking for a career change and are completely free to attend. Each event will feature a Jobs and Training Board so attendees can easily view the opportunities on offer and will be able to apply directly with exhibitors for training courses or jobs on the day.

These events are possible through a partnership of regional organisations including Uni Hub Spencer Gulf, Workforce Australia – Local Jobs, Career Co, Regional Development Australia the Copper Coast, Port Augusta, and Port Pirie Councils and the Flinders and Upper North Local Health Network.
