Residents in the Goyder area are set to benefit from a new collaboration between Uni Hub Spencer Gulf and the Regional Council of Goyder that will improve local access to tertiary education opportunities.

The partnership will see the introduction of a one day a month Uni Hub outreach service based at the Goyder Council office in Burra, providing the opportunity for people in the district to study a range of university qualifications without the need to move to Adelaide.

Uni Hub Spencer Gulf CEO Anita Kuss explained the outreach will connect and support Goyder residents throughout their university journey, from enrolment through to graduation.

“Uni Hub partners with a variety of universities to support local delivery of courses that address key areas of professional skill shortage in the region,” she said.

“We have a wide range of amazing career opportunities available right here in our own backyard, and now, with the support of Uni Hub, access to the tertiary study pathways straight into those careers without having to leave home.

“Academic lectures are delivered by our partner universities online, but students receive local face to face support with everything from initial study enquiries, enrolment processes, navigating the online learning platform, access to local tutors, coordination of residential schools and industry placements, along with connection to local employers.

“Through our existing university study centres in Port Pirie, Kadina, Port Augusta, Port Lincoln and Roxby Downs, Uni Hub already supports well over 300 students from right across the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula, Far North and Eyre Peninsula.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work more closely with smaller communities like those in Goyder and appreciate the invitation and support provided by the Council to make this happen.”

Regional Council of Goyder CEO David Stevenson said council had been in discussion with the Uni Hub for a while now about an outreach service for the region.

“I am pleased we have successfully reached a positive outcome for our community to provide accessible, higher education opportunities to students within the Goyder Region, without the need to move to Adelaide,” he said.

The community is invited to come along and find out more about the Uni Hub’s Goyder Outreach Service at its official launch at the Paxton Function Centre in Burra on Tuesday, 25 June at 5.30pm.
