Uni Hub Spencer Gulf is on the hunt for new board members and is encouraging people with a passion for improving local access to tertiary education and professional career opportunities in the region to apply.

Uni Hub CEO Anita Crisp said nominations for the voluntary board roles were open until 30 August.

“We are particularly looking for people in the community who have board or committee experience, strong local industry or community networks and a solid understanding of financial management and strategic planning,” she said.

Ms Crisp explained Uni Hub Spencer Gulf operated local study centres and provided support for regional students studying at university from right across the Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Southern Flinders, Mid North and Yorke Peninsula districts.

“We provide academic and general support to students studying across a range of Bachelor and Masters degrees, foundation and school-scholarship programs. Our university partners are delivering qualifications in engineering, business, nursing, social work, psychological science, education and digital media,” she said.

Ms Crisp said the success of Uni Hub was strongly underpinned by local support.

“Uni Hub has been up and running for nearly two years and is growing from strength to strength. We are a not-for-profit organisation and our whole approach is based on partnerships and collaboration. We can’t do this on our own,” she said.

Established in mid-2018 with support from the Australian Government, local Councils, schools, regional business and industry groups and in partnership with Flinders, Adelaide and CQ universities, Uni Hub opened its first community-owned university study centre in Port Pirie in 2019, with a second presence established in Port Augusta in 2020 and a third site in Kadina proposed from 2021.

Potential nominees are encouraged to visit the Uni Hub website –  www.unihubsg.org for more information.
