Uni Hub Spencer Gulf has doubled the number of students enrolled in its locally supported university qualifications for the third year in a row.

Uni Hub Chief Executive Officer Anita Crisp said the increase in student numbers not only proves that there is a strong demand for locally accessible and locally supported university study, but also trust in the model Uni Hub was delivering.

“When Uni Hub first opened its doors in Port Pirie for the 2019 academic year, we had 24 students enrolled across five degrees. In 2020 this number grew to 51 students across Port Pirie and Port Augusta,” she said.

“We now have 107 students studying a range of courses across the Port Pirie, Port Augusta and Copper Coast University Centres,” she said.

Ms Crisp said the most popular course to date was the Bachelor of Nursing, followed by the Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Psychological Science and Bachelor of Education. The Uni Hub has also welcomed the first cohort of students enrolled in the Associate Degree in Engineering this year.

“In addition to enrolments in our full degree courses, we have more than 35 students enrolled in either the university foundation studies program or the school based high achievers program,” she said.

Ms Crisp explained the qualifications were delivered through the Uni Hub’s partner universities and were selected by a panel of local employers to specifically help address skilled workforce shortages in the region.

“Over the three years we have increased the number of degrees supported locally to meet the growing demand for university qualifications in areas of strong job and career opportunities right here in the region,” she said.
