Uni Hub Spencer Gulf is preparing for a leadership transition, with CEO Anita Kuss set to step down at the end of June after steering the organisation from its inception.

“It feels like the right time to hand over the reins,” Ms Kuss said. “It’s been an incredible privilege to be part of Uni Hub’s journey and see the vision of improving access to university education in the region become a reality.

“Uni Hub has grown into something truly special thanks to the passion and commitment of so many people in our region—particularly our amazing staff, who come to work every day determined to make a difference for their communities, and the board members who volunteer their time to this important cause.”

Ms Kuss also paid tribute to the civic and industry leaders of the Upper Spencer Gulf Common Purpose Group and Spencer Gulf Cities, who set the wheels in motion more than a decade ago with a bold vision to ‘grow our own’ skilled workforce. After years of planning and effort to secure initial funding, Uni Hub opened its first university study hub in Port Pirie in 2019, followed by sites in Port Augusta, Copper Coast, Port Lincoln and Roxby Downs. The organisation now supports over 500 local university students across the north and west of the state.

Ms Kuss explained her decision was about timing and the organisation’s future needs. “Uni Hub has reached a level of growth and maturity that calls for fresh energy and new skills to guide its next chapter. I wanted to give plenty of notice to ensure a smooth transition.”

“I don’t have any plans beyond June, but I trust the right opportunity will come at the right time. However, it’s not the end yet—there are still many months to go and lots of work to do in the meantime.”

Chair of the Uni Hub Spencer Gulf board, Port Lincoln-based Kylie Petherick, said Ms Kuss had advised the board she would not seek to renew her employment contract when it expires on 30 June 2026.

“Whilst we are sad to see Anita go, she has given us plenty of time for an extended transition,” Ms Petherick said. “We are extremely proud of what Uni Hub has achieved under Anita’s leadership and grateful for her continued guidance and support to the team in the months ahead.”

The board has been working with Ms Kuss, Uni Hub staff and regionally based recruitment firm Career Co to shape the leadership role, ahead of recruitment commencing in early January.
